Rules to Guide You

Recently, I marked my 48th journey around the sun! Over these 48 years, I've gained valuable insights from a multitude of experiences. I've had moments of brilliance and times where I've stumbled. I've crossed paths with incredible individuals who motivated me to grow, as well as others whose negativity I learned to steer clear of. All these adventures, lessons, and encounters have played a crucial role in shaping me into the person I am today.

With that being said, I wanted to share with you the top 40 "rules" that have guided me over the years. I have broken the list into a few categories.

My Top 10

1. Never forget where you came from. (stay humble)

2. Give without expectations.

3. Learn from your mistakes. This is one of life's best lessons.

4. Be empathetic, you never know what someone is personally going through.

5. Ask a lot of questions and always stay curious.

6. Even your worst days are better than someone else’s. Be grateful for what you have.

7. Treat others as you would want to be treated by them. (The Golden Rule)

8. You are a work in progress. Embrace it and move forward.

9. Go out of your way to help others.

10. The better person you become the better people you will attract.

More Great Rules

11. Always lift others up.

12. If you're going to fall, make sure you fall forward.

13. Your partner in life and business will make the biggest difference in your success.

14. Put yourself in the other person's shoes.

15. Learn from others and listen to the stories from the past. Your parents and grandparents are a wealth of information.

16. Speak up when you see something wrong.

17. One of the best things you can do with your kids is start a hobby with them that you can both enjoy.

18. Treat everyone equally.

19. Staying positive does not mean that things will turn out okay. Rather it is knowing that you will be okay no matter how things turn out.

20. Never stop learning.

21. Never forget those who have supported you along your path to success.

Productivity

22. Simplify your life by creating routines and removing regular decisions that you make throughout the day.

23. Create and tackle smaller daily goals to accomplish a large overwhelming goal.

24. Do something you're very passionate about so you never feel like you're working.

25. There's nothing more valuable than time. We all have the same amount of minutes in a day. What you do with them is up to you!

26. It's never going to be perfect. Allow yourself some grace.

Human Behavior

27. Human behavior rarely changes. The more you understand this, the easier things will be.

28. Hating someone makes them important. Forgiving them makes them obsolete.

29. What other people say about you is their reality, not yours.

30. Do not allow negative people to turn you into one of them.

Quotes

31. Life is about the journey, not the destination. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

37. Saving money needs to be treated like any other bill.

38. Give yourself 7 days before you buy something. This helps avoid impulse buys.

39. Don't get attached to inanimate objects or possessions. These items will come and go.

40. The more you dwell on what you don’t have, the more you get what you don’t want.

Action Item

Take a moment to curate a list of rules that have guided you throughout your life as well as others that inspire you. Feel free to use any of the ones above. But write them down and use that time to reflect on your journey that got you here and plan ahead for the years to come.
